Green Hill Park Equestrian Center Wish List

Green Hill Park Equestrian Center is a 501 C3 non-profit organization.  The activities and capital improvements at this park are to a large extent funded by operations of the park, by individual and group donations, and from grants.  Donations have been received from member organizations such as Blue Ridge Horse Force, Blue Ridge Eventing, South West Virginia Dressage Association, Anonymous Donations, and  Roanoke County Parks and Recreations through matching fund grant opportunities.  The management team is viewing in it's crystal ball and sees a list of capital improvements and items that are listed below.  If you would like to help through donations of money, donations of time, or donations of items, please contact us at:

The Wish List:

Capital Improvments:

Current Projects:

  1. Stabling for Day Use: Many have expressed the desire for day use stabling.  The GHPEC, private contributors and Roanoke County through matching grant funding have made this a reality.  The project is going forward.  Plans include removing the footing from ring 3 for the base and redoing ring 3 with a better footing.  Three 4 stall buildings are under construction at a remote site and will be delivered by truck.  The first building is on site and dedicated at the October show!

Additional Projects:

  1. Another Judges Stand: we currently have stands for rings 1 and 2.  While these stands are on skids, moving them does injure the lawn.  In addition, the lay of the grounds surrounding ring 3 require that the judges stand be placed on a risers.

  2. Lights for Ring 3: We have 60 ft. poles for lighting in ring 3 but need equipment and personnel to place them.  This will require specialized equipment.  If anyone knows of a pole truck and someone who will donate its use or give us a discount please contact us.

  3. Picnic Area:  We have an area near the creek that would make  a nice picnic grounds but it needs landscaping, clean-up, and tables.  A great project for a 4-H club or scouts troop!

  4. Ribbon-Gate Keeper Gazebo: During the winter fun shows and those hot summer days, a gazebo for this very important person would be a great addition.  It also provides a physical structure for riders to report for entering the ring.  This person as well needs a place to keep the ribbons and paper-work organized.

  5. Landscaping including some trees between rings 1 and 2 and the secretary's stand.  This is a no-horse zone and would provide shade for the visitors.

  6. Concession Stand: The old secretary's office is a great concession stand area but it needs improvements.  Concessions are a good way to make extra money on your show and provide the participants refreshment.

Gadgets and Equipment:

  1. Lights for Ring 3:  We have 6 poles.  Lighting on these poles should adequately cover this large ring for those spring and fall shows that run into the twilight.
